How I handle your data, and how you can opt out of analytics

If you have any questions about any of the following, send an email to iain@iainsgillis.com with a subject starting with “PRIVACY” and I’ll do my best to help you out.

Personal information

When you use this website, no cookies are stored on your devices.

The only potentially personally identifiable information that captured and stored is a visitor’s apparent IP address, which is logged by the server and stored for a period of 30 days for the sole purpose of maintaining this site’s functionality (for example, to debug server-related problems, specifically as they may be related to malicious activity directed against this site).

Data transfer

This website operates exclusively over HTTPS, which encrypts data between your computer and the server where this site is hosted. Your internet service provider, VPN provider, or employer may be able to see that you are that you visited iainsgillis.com, but not which content you view or what you search for on this site.

Web analytics

This uses Plausible Analytics, an open-source, privacy-friendly web analytics tool, to measure what content is most popular on this site.

What is captured by the Plausible script is stored in encrypted format on a server in the European Union. You can read more about what Plausible collects and how it works, and Plausible’s data policy on their website.

Opt out of analytics

If you would still prefer that your visits not be included, clicking the button below will toggle your inclusion/exclusion in this site’s analytics.

A single property will be stored in the localStorage in your browser. It will stay there until you clear your browser’s cache, and is only stored on your machine. Your decision to opt out will not be tracked as an event.
